Hello there …
People often ask me how I first got into miniatures and dollhouses. I guess it all started whilst on maternity leave with my third child in 2015 when was looking for a small craft project. I had always wanted a dollhouse ever since I was a little girl (my Dad promised he would make my sister and I one but he never managed to get around to it). I started looking at various dollhouses and found a modern Lundby dollhouse in 1:18 scale and asked my family to buy one for me for Christmas.
Once I got the Lundby dollhouse I began to decorate it in a modern Scandinavian style, making some of the furniture and decor items myself. I also created a mini version of my family using Lundby dolls. I started posting photos of my dollhouse and mini family on Instagram (@littlefishcreationsaus) and a few people asked to buy some items I created, in particular mini wallpapers that I had designed for my dollhouse rooms. I started listing digital downloads of my mini wallpapers in my Etsy store Little Fish Creations and they proved to be quite popular.
I continued to decorate a few more Lundby dollhouses in different styles over the next few years, and really enjoyed the miniature world I had created. However, in 2020, my youngest daughter re-introduced me to the world of Barbie with her discovery of the new articulated Made-to-Move dolls. She asked me to make a small dollhouse for her new Barbie. I also began to make some furniture and decor pieces for her dollhouse, this time in 1:6 scale (3 times larger than what I was used to with my Lundby dollhouses). I absolutely loved Barbie dolls as a child so I knew I had to create my own Barbie-sized mini family.
My passion for creating miniatures continues to this day. I love that I can use a variety of design and crafting skills that I have learnt over my 40+ years to create small scale interiors that I would want to live in myself.
In recent months I have decided to take the plunge and design a range of physical miniatures in 1:6 scale to sell to others with a similar passion. With a new name, look and focus … Small Scale Interiors was born.
